Take a trip to Castle Ashby to celebrate high summer!

Fiori Musicali play concertos from baroque greats Vivaldi, Handel and Bach – in the ancient church of St Mary Magdalene 28 July 2013.

To celebrate high summer, Fiori will delight you with a performance of music from the high baroque (a phrase to describe music from the latter years of the baroque period 1600-1750) in their annual summer concert in the beautiful estate church at Castle Ashby.

You’ll find Kerstin Linder-Dewan & Malu Lin Swayne on solo violins, Amanda Babington on recorder, Poppy Walshaw on cello and Kinga Gáborjáni on gamba – all playing exciting solos with the Fiori Musicali Chamber Orchestra, and of course director Penelope Rapson in the hot seat at harpsichord. This year their programme includes Bach’s very popular concerto for 2 violins. And as is always the case, not only do you get beautiful music but a gorgeous location too!

Whilst celebrating all things summer, what better time to get out the picnic hamper on a lovely Sunday evening? You’ll be able to enjoy eating al fresco (your special chance to picnic at Castle Ashby) before enjoying the sounds of summers gone by, in the stunning church. With weather like we’ve been having, it’s too good an opportunity to miss!

And if you’d like a lazy day, The Buttery tea rooms or The Larder can sort the food for you. They can be found in The Rural Shopping Yard, located in the village of Castle Ashby, which boasts a range of shops and boutiques (open 11am – 5pm) for your perusal.

If you’re a keen gardener you could visit the beautiful Castle Ashby House gardens before enjoying Fiori’s performance at 7.30pm. It’s advised that you allow 2-3 hours to cover the gardens.
